Traditional PC lifecycle thinking says that a PC is efficient to use up to 4 years old, and no longer cost effective to use beyond 5 years old. Video: Microsoft’s Updated SkyDrive will be Integrated into Windows 8

Microsoft has announced an update to their popular cloud storage system SkyDrive (part of the Microsoft Live.com family of free cloud services). With this update SkyDrive will essentially be part of the Windows 8 metro style interface. There will also be integration to allow access to your SkyDrive from the Windows Explorer window in Windows 8. This will make it as easy to access your SkyDrive as is your My Documents folder. Will Cloud Computing Be Getting More Affordable?

Microsoft cloud computingIf you haven’t read it yet, check out Microsoft’s recent white paper on the economics of cloud computing. How do you reduce your IT infrastructure costs by 80%? Well Microsoft thinks that one day cloud could be that cost effective! Microsoft released a new white paper in November called The Economics of the Cloud which describes in detail how the cloud could become so inexpensive (compared to traditional infrastructure) that may not consider anything else. Microsoft looks at a vast array of factors from cost saving per server as larger datacenters get larger, to making physical host servers more efficient by analyzing the time of day each client virtual machine is most highly utilized. Microsoft’s Replacement for BPOS: Microsoft Office 365

office_365What Is Office365?
Office365 is an integrated cloud solution for hosted Exchange email, hosted SharePoint, and hosted Lync. It is not, however, the next version of Microsoft Office. This service is an upgrade to Microsoft’s existing BPOS (Business Productivity Online Suite) cloud offering. In addition, this service offers several new packages which should be attractive to both very small businesses and large enterprises alike.
